Who Lives In The Hills Of Lebec?

We're in Paso Robles for the weekend and driving up here yesterday, we stopped in Lebec, CA for gas.

Lebec is located in desert hills and is sparsely populated. On a hilltop near the gas station was a very nice house.

What on Earth are these people doing there? Are they famous novelists who have become hermits? Are they members of the Secret Seven and control global currencies from latops on their deck overlooking I5? Are they conspiracy theorists who have sold all of their belongings and have encamped in Lebec awaiting thermonuclear Armageddon?

It's a mystery wrapped in an enigma ensconced in something weird perched on a hilltop in Lebec.

Every time I drive North/South on I5 I stop at the Flying J at that exit.

I've wondered the same thing you were asking... Who are these people and what do they do to earn a living?

If you are really curious check out the Kern County Assessor's office. Sometimes, it turns out to be Some Rich Person. Trust owning the property, sometimes....

It's one of two things: the secret entrance to NSA's California surveillance bunker (the whole mountain's a supercomputer), hiding in plain sight; or it's just some rube trying to milk the Universal Service Fund, getting you to fund his high speed internet in the middle of nowhere.

It looks like a sentry position to me. We could put up a sign with the outline of bigfoot or a terrorist and see if it suddenly grows ventillation holes.
