Health authorities in Germany have finally been able to show that the pathogens which caused the deadly EHEC outbreak came from sprouts at an organic farm in the Uelzen district.
*shudder* Pretty sure the bull pile that my mom manages cooks itself well-- one year a cow died and she plowed it up with that years pile, near the bottom. By the time she distributed the composted manure-- two or three year cycle, I can't remember, but I THINK it's three-- the bones were "cooked" gleaming white.As much as I love garden fresh veggies, I can't imagine willingly eating raw, "organic" sprouts-- too hard to fully clean. (I've heard folks mention they grow well hydroponically?)
And some things can't be cleaned at all, because the plant will incorporate bacteria from the soil into it's tissues. Besides, "organic" produce has about the same violation rate for pesticides as regular produce.
