Greater Efficiency Means we can Double our Mistakes!

Recently, a friend at work did a caption-the-photo contest with this shot.

My entry was, "Despite his expert use of Lean Six Sigma, Balanced Scorecard, CMMI and Project Management tools, Frank's plan to catch fish by leaping upon them from above failed miserably, proving once again that a stupid idea executed flawlessly is still stupid."

It got me to thinking about how focusing on process improvement to the exclusion of all else made you more efficient at being stupid. Lousy things done more rapidly just increases your output of lousy things. Imagine if the Oakland Raiders decide to use a hurry-up offense. Then they'd be able to double the number of penalties they commit. Glorious!

Noting their lack of production, the Raiders' metric for success was to double the number of offensive plays they ran in a game. Their effort was highly successful.

I can't wait for our next round of efficiency training at work!
