It finally dawned on me what's going on here. The Left is trying to tear down everything from the past and is building a utopia from scratch. Everyone that went before us is racist, homophobic, transphobic, imperialist and so forth. It's so simple! Just throw it all away and do the things that put you on the Right Side of History.
The problem is that over the last 6000 years, lots and lots of very complicated issues have been resolved through thought, experience and application. You may have an advanced degree from a Very Important University, but you can't think of everything.
When the trans insanity started, it was obvious to the Big Thinkers that all we needed to do was affirm each person's gender identity. Clearly, that was the Right Side of History. They didn't anticipate men competing in women's sports and smashing the competition. They also didn't anticipate the biological aspects of it, like what hormones do to brains.
In general terms, they haven't thought their utopia through. How could they? If you start from a clean sheet of paper, you have to think literally everything through from scratch. Further, if you censor anyone who thinks that the whole clean-sheet-of-paper thing is madness, there will be lots and lots of questions you didn't anticipate.
Like, "What is a woman?"

It's absolutely clear that the DNC dude was blindsided with these questions and was making up his answers on the spot.
He wouldn't have needed to do so if he'd just practiced a little humility and honored the people that went before him. It's a lot easier to build upon what already exists than it is to start with a clean sheet of paper.
