Expect the Retraction on Page A36

...on Wednesday.

Today's San Diego Union print edition has a huge banner headline screaming that "Iraqi Prime Minister Endorses Obama's Withdrawal Plan" or something like that. Of course, Prime Minister Maliki has come out and said that he's been completely misquoted and said nothing of the sort, but the headline is out there on every newsstand.

Obama was totally wrong about the surge, the surge has worked better than we had hoped, the war is won despite Obama's complete misunderstanding of the situation, we can now remove victorious troops ahead of schedule and what is the conclusion by the MSM?

Obama was right all along.

The MSM is simply the propaganda wing of the Obama campaign.

Except that the Iraqi Prime Minister really did say this. It was their interpreter - despite of their claims to the contrary - they weren't misquoted.

I have to admit that it never occurred to me to find a way to make Obama's withdrawal plan somehow agree with Maliki, given that Iraq owes it's current peace and growing prosperity to the surge which was the opposite of what Obama has been proposing all along.

I suppose that if you look at it just right, the Copperhead Democrats were right all along. After all, Federal troops did indeed leave the South, albeit a few years later than the Copperheads wanted. In the end, the Copperheads' plans for withdrawal were executed. That the withdrawal followed victory instead of simply disengaging from the fight may be a trivial distinction.

Just as I commented a few months ago, KT. The best thing to do is follow Nixon's strategy.

Declare victory and leave.

I didn't bother to read the whole interview between Der Spiegel and Prime Minister Maliki. It's telling that the one snippet they turn into a screaming headline is about the Obamamessiah.
