Turkey?

I've only been following the Israeli intercept of the Turkish flotilla bound for Gaza through odds and ends picked up on other blogs and bits hear on the radio. Yesterday, the enormity of what's going on struck me.

Turkey?!?

What on Earth is Turkey doing antagonizing Israel? Don't they have better things to do? It indicates that they now value making friends with the anti-semites in the region more than they worry about angering the US. Either that or it suggests that they no longer believe that taking on Israel would anger the US. Either way, Turkey getting involved so blatantly in the efforts to destroy Israel is a big shift.

It doesn't look like grovelling in front of the Muslims and dissing the Israelis was the best way to go about achieving peace in the Middle East. It looks like it's just invited more instability.

Here's some discussion about the whole flotilla mess, and Turkey's involvement in it, from "The Forward"[1], which as near as I can tell is a Jewish news source that is generally sympathetic to Israel, but isn't shy about giving them what for when they think the Israeli government has screwed up, either.

[1] For some reason, I get regular email notifications whenever a new issue of The Forward comes out. I don't know why. I have no recollection of ever subscribing to it, and they don't appear to be the type of publication that would resort to random spamming. But still, there it is.

Backing the strong horse?

I sure wouldn't be betting on our side at the moment.

Yeah , I don't get it either .

I don't get that Israeli's are anti-Semite .. consider your blood ties. Whoops eh.. say what.

Really, the closing ring of empathy for Israel should make you consider whether the whole military might theme is as practical as Keynesian economics.

A lot easier just to drop the hostilities between all of you middle east nations. Easier , but the fighting and animosity is so ingrained all of you just don't know how to stop.

I can read Arab and Israeli blogs and they all plead their case and make assertions.

Frankly, most of the world is tired of this endless hate-fest and money draining black hole of hate.

Expect little sympathy going forward -- for ALL the countries involved in the incessant bickering without end.

We all have our own problems now, and this ranks waaaay the hell down there.
