Chicago's First Alien Mayor

... might be interesting or of some value. Chicago's first black, lesbian mayor isn't.

It's 2019. Rainbow flags are all over the place. There are Pride parades, Pride weeks, Pride months and who knows what else. It's just not a big deal any more. Still, that was the front page banner when Lori Lightfoot, identifying, this week at least, as a black lesbian, won the election for mayor of Chicago.

Who cares? Lori does. The media does. Activists do. How about the rest of us? Not so much. As I scanned through the news headlines for the event, all I could think was that if I were a resident of Chicago, I'd be more concerned about crime, insolvency and public transport. Lori could be a one-armed Eskimo or a Peruvian dog trainer for all it mattered. After the speeches and announcements and the media drooling over one more "disadvantaged" person holding office, the work still needs to be done and in Chicago, what a lot of work there is.

Hasn't all of this "first" stuff gotten old yet?

I don't know who she's going to fight. Her party has dominated Chicago politics for many decades.

Why, she's going to fight the same people her Party has been fighting for all those decades -- the Normals.

Truth to power-- oddly only "their" truth, and very select power.
