Palomar Mountain Fire Smoke Satellite Images

Friends at SDSU have sent me these satellite images of smoke from the Palomar Mountain fire as of about 7AM today. This gives you the eastern boundaries of the fire. If you're familiar with the area, you can figure out where these boundaries are. Unfortunately, Google Earth is a pretty poor tool for drawing things on maps, so this will have to do for right now. I will come back and post more later after I've put some points of reference on the map.

As of the update on this map, the fire is about 2 miles from the Palomar Observatory.

Update: Here's a polygon overlay and the smoke removed from that Google Earth image. I closed in on the observatory and some friends of mine who live near Bailey Meadow Rd. As of the date of this image, roughly 7AM, the fire was 2 miles from the observatory and about half a mile from Bailey Meadow Rd.

My godmother has a cabin off S7 and Pacheco Rd. I am trying to find out if it is still safe.

Sorry, nativegirl, I can't help with that. I was just trying to provide a better operational picture than what I could find elsewhere. Those of us who worked on this throughout the fire promise to do better next time.

In the meantime, you have my prayers.

I go up to Bailey's palomar resort a few times a year. Are Terri and Brad's place okay? do you have any more updated info than this morning?

Fortunately, the Bailey property came through the fires just fine. I don't know about the rest.

Cal Rainford is staying with us here in Vegas. Is there any information about his place on Crestline Rd??

Sorry, anon. I don't know about anyone's place except the Baileys. Best of luck in your search. Cal is in our prayers.

And tell Cal not to gamble while he's out there. Gambling is for dummies.

Hi there,
Just wondering if you have any new pictures. I know that they are setting a secondary fire today and wondering if it is helping with the situation. I did speak to Teri B. this week and they are doing good, just waiting to return home.
