Feelings Don't Care About Your Facts

The quote below perfectly summarizes my take on how we got to the point where SciAm is spouting utter nonsense and our medical institutions are actively harming people.

Substitute transgender for vaccines and make it about the harm done to girls and you get the same thing. Substitute Global Warming Climate Change for vaccines and make it about the collapse of Sri Lanka or people freezing in Europe and you get the same thing. Substitute racial justice for vaccines and make it about illiterate black children and you get the same thing.

When moral values are derived from large scale causes like Global Warming Climate Change, racial justice and gender affirmation, this is what you'd expect to see. Yes, my actions caused harm, but so what? The real evil would be to not serve the larger causes.

If the truth is cast aside for these causes, if people suffer needlessly for these causes, if lives are cut short because of these causes, it's all OK because the people wreaking havoc are doing it out of love. Anyone who opposes them does so out of hate.

Bonus Tweet

Yesterday, 60 Minutes posted a piece citing the ever-wrong Paul Ehrlich as an expert. It's not that they didn't know, it's that fighting Global Warming Climate Change is more important than truth or accuracy.

One pattern I have noticed among the educated academic class is a logical progression when dealing with a societal issue, be it Covid, climate change, transgenderism, etc. It is this: My respected professor at [Prestigious institution of higher learning] believes [progressive nonsense] and I believe it too, because the professor is very smart and only holds informed opinions. And now that I have told you, you must agree because you know I am smart and only hold informed opinions. And if you don't agree with me, either you don't respect my intelligence, or you are a mental defective who shouldn't be allowed to interact with society because you poison it with misinformation.

Didn't Someone once tell us that a man cannot serve two masters?

Also, isn't it odd that the "morality" based on "harm mitigation" doesn't, in the end, mitigate harm, and its proponents don't care?
