I want to work this out a little more, but I don't have the time today. Instead, I'll just make the point that if you're losing customers, you might want to show some appreciation for them once in a while instead of every homily being a list of things we need to improve.

Yes. The Church wants to blame their falling membership on people being "seduced away by the pleasures of the world". But in my experience, it is much more a case of the Church authorities practically going out of their way to make going to church unpleasant and unrewarding, while offering so little in return that their members just kind of . . . wander off.
Right! It's so unprofessional that it's pathetic.
