Scarborough Fair

So last night after dinner we were playing hearts while listening to Pandora when Simon & Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair came on. I began to wonder just what they had at Scarborough Fair. Did they have hot dogs on a stick? The House of Mirrors? Sheep judging? I decided to write part of a modern version of the song.

Enjoy.
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
(Deep-fried Twinkies and Swifty Swine)
Remember me to one who works there
She's got cups in which you throw dimes

Are they running the Centrifuge?
(Hose it down from the last ride)
Half a score puked as it spun 'round
The seats all smell like something that died
You're welcome.

I always pictured it as much more innocent, something like a May Day celebration with women in long dresses and flowers in their hair, lilting Greensleeves kind of music, a cross between happy hippie days and Robin Hood... no carny rides and barkers, or sad stuffed animals pumped up on sticks...

Have we become jaded? The Fair is not fun any more.
