Alice in Wonderland? No, US Energy Politics

Brazil finds oil. They drill. We have 10x as much. We do not drill.

Not drilling (and the consequent security to the environment) made perfect sense when oil was "cheap". It allowed us to exploit others non-renewable resources, while banking ours.
Times have changed. The technology for drilling has improved. The environmental risks are smaller, not zero, but then nothing is perfectly safe. The price point has now moved to where drilling is the right move. The drilling should be accompanied by a real program to develop renewable energy (solar, wind, water - and water could have some good benefits here in the southwest in terms of water storage during our drought) and nuclear.

Expect neither of the candidates to say anything like this. My best guess... McCain might do something like this after the election, Obama won't.
