Meet Buddy!
Wife kitteh wanted a younger dog that she can take for walks so she gets more exercise. Lily and Leah, our chihuahua-mixes, are roughly 70 years old in human years. Walking? No. How about going back to bed after a snack?
Buddy is 11 weeks old and we were told he was a spaniel-lab mix. If that dog has any spaniel in him, I'm the King of France. He looks more like a pit bull to me. Still, his paws aren't that big, so whatever he is, I can't see him getting over 40#.
I hope.
In the meantime, while the girls sleep with us as they always have, Buddy sleeps in a crate downstairs. Well, that is until he wakes up and doesn't want to be in the crate. This morning, that happened at 0230. Bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark...
I finally got up and jumped on that particular canine grenade at 0245. Oof.
I can't wait for him to get a bit older so he's had all his shots and we can safely take him to the local dog park to get his ya-yas out.
Until then, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Well, isn't he a cutie! I'm sure he's adept at giving the sad-puppy eyes and being forgiven his crimes.
I agree that he is about the least spaniel-like dog imaginable, and it isn't much more believable that he has any Labrador heritage, either. If he has any ancestors that belonged to any AKC-recognized breed, then maybe some sort of bull terrier. Possibly with some sort of medium-sized hound. But I expect that he's got no specific breed ancestry back for at least a dozen generations.
Back when we had Sid, our biggish mostly-black dog of no recognizable heritage, people would ask what kind of dog he was, and my response was, "Yes, he's some kind of dog." I think that generally sums it up for most dogs.
Have fun!
