Japanese Beetles Like Pizza

From the Interesting Insects file comes these two photos from my recent trip to the Inyo-Kern area. Enjoy!

I believe what you've got there is a Figeater Beetle, which are kind of similar to Japanese beetles, but are (a) a native species, and (b) not nearly as much of a pest.

They are supposed to like soft fruits. Maybe it is agreeing with the botanists that tomatoes are fruits. Or maybe it is something else it's after. What toppings did you put on that pizza?

I think it was licking up the tomato sauce.

Also, I think you identified one of these hombres for me before. Thanks again! I don't know what I'd do without you. ☺️
