... thinking about how they filmed it is another.

Oh, that's easy. They obviously filmed it with their helicopter.

Flying at about wavetop height over heavy seas in high winds.

And then landed it on the helipad on the rear deck of that rolling, pitching ship . . .

You're right. How did they film that? Without dying, I mean?
