Why Are Mardi Gras Colors Green, Gold and Purple?

Here at the 'Post, we always want to be of service, answering the questions that keep you up at night. One member of the Catican staff asked this morning about Mardi Gras colors. Here's what we found out*.
  • Green is for the money you spend on liquid refreshments and revelry.

  • Gold is for the color of the beer you drink.

  • Purple is for the unexplained bruises on your body when you wake up the next morning on the sidewalk.

There. That's it! We're always happy to help, so feel free to add more questions in the comments below.

* - We didn't actually look this up, so it's more of a guess than "what we found out".

LOl - and if we repeat it - it may become the official explanation!

Well, considering that Wikipedia gives three different, unrelated explanations for the colors, you might just as well throw in one more!
