I spent the week in God's country, looking at a particular property on the Fish River. The place was so beautiful, even wife kitteh loved it and said it was The One. She didn't go with me on the trip, but the realtor had done a thorough video walk-through before I left. She'll come with me on the next trip, after the inspections and before we close.

How far from Galveston?
It looks like a really nice spot. Hope it works out. Any alligators?
"Perfectly adequate" ... HaHa.
MN, it's 520 miles from the Holy City. It's less than 8 hours driving.
Tim, the Fish River does indeed have gators, but they avoid the houses and mostly live on the wild side of the river. Here, there are houses on both sides, so I doubt they visit much. A guy living on the river told me that a few years back, one came into a friend's yard and attacked the family dog, but that's pretty rare.
As a general rule, the way to test whether or not a body of water has gators in the Gulf South is to stick your hand in the water. If your hand gets wet, there's gators there.
By the way, Tim, the guy who told me that story owned a pair of small poodles. He says he doesn't let his dogs out into the yard unchaperoned because one was small enough to be seized by ospreys.
