The Illegal Invasion Comes To My Doorstep

In my Twitter feed yesterday came news about Senator Laphonza Butler (D-CA) asking the Federal government to send money to San Diego because we're being overwhelmed with illegals and the city has run out of money to take care of them. Here's the letter. Below is the paragraph that blew my mind.

States, including California, continue to see significant numbers of migrant encounters at our southern border. The situation in California became even more pressing this past week. In San Diego, a transitional assistance center that was serving up to 1,200 migrants per day was forced to shutter after local resources provided by the County ran out. Without the intervention this transitional facility was able to provide, Border Patrol will now be forced to release an estimated 800-1000 migrants a day without orientation or basic humanitarian assistance at regional transit stations. There is an urgent need for additional SSP funding to ensure that these migrants have access to essential temporary services, including food and shelter. While I am optimistic that Congressional leaders will soon pass a full-year appropriations bill, it is imperative that the Administration acts now.

Emphasis mine. 800-1000 a day! That's 25,000 new homeless people in the city per month.

I wondered if it was real. I know how the game is played with government money. You cry about a crisis, make it seem bigger than it is and if you frighten the bag men in DC, they give you some coins. A little searching on YouTube got me this video.

I looked up the Iris Transit Station in San Ysidro and decided to pay it a visit. I'd seen some tweets about San Diego hotels being bought out by the government to house illegals, so I dug around a bit and heard that the Ramada in Mission Valley was one of them. Looking at the reviews for the hotel, I found this one.

Booked several months ago. Got a confirmation email 3 days before. Showed up and was not allowed in by security. They told me it was closed and is "not a hotel right now" and hasn't been for months.

They did not attempt to contact me to tell me I no longer had a room. Was left to scramble to find a new hotel at the last minute.

They would not even allow me to talk to someone on property because it was being used as a "federal facility". Something very shady is going on here.

It was on the way to San Ysidro, so I swung by and took some photos. Bingo.

It's blocked off with a locked privacy fence. There's no construction happening, but plenty of people inside.

The Iris Transit Station looked exactly like what you see in the video above. I watched an unmarked, white bus disgorging 50-60 illegals into the parking lot and saw Border Patrol guys inside the bus. I didn't take any photos of the lost and forlorn illegals wandering around, trying to figure out what they were supposed to do next. It was heartbreaking to see. Photographing them would have been ghoulish.

The Ramada is less than 10 miles from my house. Iris is a good deal farther away, but illegals are also being dumped at the Old Town Transit Center, which is also less than 10 miles away from me.

The invasion has come to my doorstep.

Hate, Not Love

This is hate, not love. The secular left, allied with far-left Catholic Charities and other greedy NGOs, isn't doing this because they care about "migrants." There's no way you could see a young family of illegals - mom, dad and three kids under 12 - wandering around in a daze at the transit center and think this was the product of compassion.

This is the demon child of intersectionality and the hunger for power.

Evil is on the top, good is on the bottom.
You can't make an earthly paradise omelet without breaking the lives of a couple hundred thousand future voters by dumping them on the streets.

In order for good to triumph over evil, evil must become a minority so that evil can never again seize power through elections. The illegals dumped on the streets of our cities are nothing more than cannon fodder infantry units for the secular left. Instead of rifles, they carry future votes.

Oddly enough, the most chilling thing about what is happening is the Ramada. Our local, secular-lefty government has commandeered a hotel with our money and then put a privacy fence around it so no one can see what they're doing. This is happening in plain sight.

They hate us.

There Are Two Ways To Return To The Truth

 ... one would be through the re-emergence of a muscular Catholicism that defends truth and objective reality. Since that's a decade or two away when our newest crop of mostly conservative priests take the reins from the effeminate soyboys who are in charge right now, the other option would be a Secular Reformation.

Secular theology is organized around intersectionality.

I could go on and on and on with examples of powerful organizations proudly and vigorously spreading the Gospel of Secularism. Gemini itself was designed as a massive evangelization engine. By giving schoolchildren ChromeBooks, driving them to use Google and then putting Gemini results at the top of their searches, the social justice catechism of the secular world would be spread far and wide. Good luck rooting it out after that.

Social Justice is built on a foundation of lies. It posits that moral goodness resides in group failure and group success is proof of moral evil. If you're secular and you have some affection for the truth, you're facing an effort on the scale of the Reformation to take secularism back from these people. Right now, they have all the power and all the money and they don't give a tinker's cuss about the truth.

Why I Yell About Secularism All The Time

I am the youngest of four. I had two brothers and still have one sister. Both of my brothers died as addicts, my oldest brother at 29 and the other, just a few years ago, in his 60s. Both spent a decent number of years of their adult lives as drug dealers. In fact, my oldest brother, we'll call him Jack, was murdered by fellow drug dealers when he injected the cocaine instead of selling it.

I only had a few adult conversations with Jack as he was so much older and died so young, but I had plenty with my other brother, who we'll call Jeff. We were all raised Catholic and went to Catholic schools. Jeff had bachelor's degrees in both pharmacy and pharmacology. Jack had gotten a full scholarship to Yale. We were all told how smart we were more than enough times to make us smug and self-assured in our smarteriness. I'm still plenty smug, as you know.

Raised in the Catholic tradition of ethics and morality derived from logic, observation and revealed truth, Jeff and I had many conversations about the ethics and morality of his life. In addition to selling drugs, Jeff also slept with almost any woman who would have him. He once bragged to me that he had slept with his boss, a woman 20 years his senior.

Jeff was thoroughly secular. He sneered at all that religious mumbo-jumbo for the same reasons many today do - if it was true and valuable, how come its practitioners weren't living perfect lives? When we discussed ethics and morality, it was always from the secular point of view because appeals to an external, objective moral authority were a waste of breath.

Jeff sold drugs because someone was going to be selling the drugs and it might as well be him. Jeff slept with the women because they let him. He once told me that four different women had abortions by him. After a moment he added, "Well, it takes two to tango," meaning that they wouldn't have needed an abortion if they hadn't made the choice to have sex with him.

When I write things like this on these blog posts, I suppose that I'm reliving those conversations with Jeff where I simply could not think of an argument to challenge his sociopathy.

My exit questions for the secularists are this: Why was any of this wrong? Derive your answer from first principles. What provides the guardrails to put an end to this? Why pursue the truth? Is there such a thing as the truth?

I'm begging you to tell me what I should have said. I used to tell him that he was hurting other people. That posed a trivially simple moral problem for the secularist to solve. Well, what of it? They wanted to hurt themselves. Someone was going to make a buck off of it, why not him? We were all going to die anyway, what difference did it make? Besides, he never sold to people with really serious drug habits, only to recreational users.

I'm not sure if that last was true, but it hardly mattered. As someone with an addictive streak myself, recreational is just a point farther up the fast-moving river that ends in a waterfall onto rocks. If you're helping the addict get his fix, you don't know where he is on that river, but you've definitely helped him to get closer to the falls.

So, my friends, what answer should I have given? What's the magic, secular turn of logic that stops the sociopath?

If you can't solve that riddle, what's your plan for surviving in a world where people like Jeff are in the majority? How are you going to equip your children to survive in a world with even more Jeffs than there are today? That's clearly what the cultural trend lines are showing.

Now that the secular world has defeated us superstitious Catholics, we might want to find an answer to those questions and pretty soon at that.

Or maybe we could return to the Church.

Secularism Produces Trash Science

I'm not going to go into a description of the recent revelations about Google's Gemini AI system. At the bottom of this post are just some examples of the neo-Nazi, racist trash and the sexually degenerate filth it returned to various prompts. If you want to learn more about it, the information is easy to find.

Instead, I want to point out that everyone who worked on the Gemini project was a college graduate, most of whom had degrees in science and engineering fields. If you think that secularism will produce good science, that you can maintain the purity of science without an overarching, objective moral system, then you need to explain mainstream science and engineering descending into sexual degeneracy and racial madness at the same time the culture is ditching Christianity.

Google Gemini is just a tiny example. Scientific American, loaded as it is recently with neo-Nazi musings about race, is equally warped as are many professional medical organizations who promote the poisoning and mutilation of girls in the name of "gender affirmation."

My exit questions for the secularists are this: Why was any of this wrong? Derive your answer from first principles. What provides the guardrails to put an end to this? Why pursue the truth? Is there such a thing as the truth?

Before you talk about slavery and the Church, I'll just point to the fact that it was Christianity and only Christianity that put an end to slavery. Even the Confederacy constantly grappled with the moral contradictions of their "peculiar institution." Had the United States been secular, there would have been no need for the South to struggle with the morality of slavery and no need for the Civil War. Without Genesis 1:27, we would have been no different than the Aztecs or the Dahomey, who never understood objections to slavery.

My hypothesis from the previous blog post still stands. In the absence of an objective morality, codified in a catechism, derived from logic and a set of first principles, you will always end up here.

Who and what you serve matters. If you serve the secular world, there's no reason at all why your research should pursue truth. It's far more likely, as we're seeing with the corruption and degeneracy at Scientific American, that research will be pursued in order to provide rationalizations for doing whatever powerful people want done. Without an objective basis for a moral order or even belief in the existence of an objective moral order, there are no guard rails to prevent you from claiming absolute nonsense like that above.

I've been ranting for a long time on this blog that the Catholic Church is the last barrier to out-and-out illogical chaos. This story, along with reading Scott Hann's excellent Rome Sweet Home, where he and his wife followed logic back across the Tiber, made me see all my ranting in a different light.

Without an objective moral order, why wouldn't you expect to see science degenerate into superstition and charlatanism? There's nothing to stop it. One glance at the mountains of funding being poured into climate science to the starvation of other fields is enough to convince you that money, even in science, follows political power. In the absence of an objective moral order, one you live under, but did not create, it's only natural that a scientist would prioritize his well-being and that of his family over any notions of serving "truth."

If you can earn $190,000 generating one more study telling us the world is going to end from Global Warming Climate Change, but you can only earn $105,000 studying astrophysics, which one are you going to choose? Those power boats don't buy themselves, you know. Only a chump would forgo a payday to pursue truth when we can't really be sure there is such a thing as truth.

It's not that Scientific American and our education industry have become corrupt, it's that they have left the spiritual nature of the world behind. Their corruption was a natural byproduct of that.

The first thing that jumped out at me was the fat, black, female cop in the back who held her baton high and looked lost throughout the video. I'm not sure what her plan was if things heated up a bit more, but I'm pretty sure running wasn't part of it.

The second thing that hit me was how much this looked like a prison riot.

The other thing that hit me were the numbers. I only counted 3 NYPD. The rest looked like rent-a-guards. The range of the potential combatants is so short that drawing your revolver and shooting was out of the question. If the illegals rushed them, those cops were dead.

Under these conditions, I cannot believe NYPD recruiting is going well.

Add to that, the number of illegals in the city is growing as reinforcements continue to be shipped in from the border.

I've said before that you'd have to be crazy to stay in the NYPD. Now I'd say that you'd have to be crazy to stay in NYC. This is only going one direction for the foreseeable future and that direction is down.

I've never understood the position some Christians take that you can do nothing on your own and you cannot be saved by your own actions. Maybe I'm misunderstanding it, but as far as I can tell, when it comes to salvation, there are only two actors: you and God. Since He is constant and His Universe is a given for all people everywhere, the only variable is you, your decisions and your actions.

Yes, I do believe that Jesus died for our sins, but that's a constant for all people everywhere as well. Since you're forgiven only if you confess and repent, or at least make a valiant effort to repent, again you're the variable in the equation.

If we aren't saved by our own actions, then what was the point of free will?

Recycling Label

We had out annual Mardi Gras party on Tuesday and it was a ton of fun. 40-50 people, gumbo, crawfish etouffee and a smoked rib roast. I managed to wake up on Ash Wednesday with only a modest hangover.

Wife kitteh asked me to make 8 1/2 x 11 labels for our trash cans, one for trash and one for recycling. I got an inspiration and asked ChatGPT to make one image of a family of raccoons in the bayou and then an image of a redneck making sculptures from scrap metal in the bayou. From those, I used Photoshop to make labels. Here's the one for the recycling.

It was amazing how I could come up with a fun and unique label in less than 5 minutes using ChatGPT.

Well, that will certainly stop the predators. Or maybe not.

I've read interviews with black gang members in London who talk about the effect African migrants have had on crime there. They all say the Africans' level of violence is on an entirely different plane from what London used to have. The sheer ferocity and amoral, predatory behavior of the newcomers has forced the existing London gangs to ratchet up their own levels of violence to match.

Meanwhile, God is love. Love is love. We must love and give and accept. Radical inclusion is the way. At least that's where the Church is right now. Lambs to the slaughter, as it were.

We lack the mental framework to deal with the predators among us. That's absolutely clear from the reaction to the illegals attacking the cops in NYC and then the illegals in the dormitory tents going at it with each other. Everyone, all over the world is just the same as the people we have coffee with in our Ivy League faculty lounges, right?

We in the Church used to believe in Satan and hell and evil. The world was tough so we had to be tough, particularly men. Not so much any more. Without that structure, we cannot cope with the raw violence of MS-13 and the rest.

Remain calm, citizens. Law enforcement is on the job. We're concerned so we're warning, pleading and monitoring. You have nothing to fear. They just want jobs and peace.

Note that it's more attacks on fewer officers because the NYPD has been hemorrhaging cops. Per officer, the stats are even worse than the article suggests.

You'd have to be nuts to stay in the NYPD. As it dwindles ... what? Do we just practice more radical inclusion, Bishop?

A Blogiversary Reflection On Where We Are

It are my blogiversary today! I started ranting online 18 years ago today. That's a long time to be trying to figure out how to avoid ending sentences with propositions. Or was that prepositions? Whatever.

I know that much of my writing over the last year has dealt with the crisis in Catholic thought. I can also tell from the lack of engagement that this is not a gripping topic for you. I'd like to explain my underlying hypothesis to that particular ranting.

Hypothesis: Without an objective model of reality, civilization will collapse into barbarism.

My argument: The Catholic Church is the keeper of that model*. There's no particular reason why the people running the Church should continue to defend or espouse that model. If they abandon it in favor of flaccid niceness, all bets are off for all of us.

A Secondary Argument: Boomers are almost completely unaware of what is happening to the younger generations, particularly Gen Z. This is natural. My parents had no insight into the rock and roll generation and their efforts to understand us were non-native. That is, they used 1940s mental models to try to comprehend Jimi Hendrix and Haight-Ashbury, with predictable results.

This is the source of my railing against the sermons I hear in church which are an endless, verbal slurry of weak mewling telling me that God is love. Meanwhile, visions of girls with phalloplasty scars dance in my head. Within 5 miles of my church, there are medical centers butchering girls in ways the Nazis would have found nauseating. My clergy, Boomers, every man Jack of them, couldn't describe what is happening there if you held a gun to their heads.

A Tertiary Argument: The Elites in politics, education and entertainment have discarded the foundations of our civilization. They are morally coasting on the fumes of the Church's objective model of reality. Taking DEI to its logical conclusion, for example, it is a moral good to allow tens of millions of migrants to invade our country and completely remake our society. Since they no longer value civilization, they cannot see what's coming.

How about an Indigenous Peoples' Pride Parade? Human sacrifices included. Jews and Christians will be the, err, "guests of honor."

That's an apex predator if ever I've seen one. He reminds me of the reef sharks I saw while diving off Grand Cayman. He's totally in charge of his surroundings. The other fish leave him alone and don't worry unless they themselves are his target. Each fish is on their own against the predators. You can see videos of that all day, every day from everywhere across the civilized world.

My hypothesis is that we don't have a framework to understand or cope with this. What we have is a pastiche of wishful thinking and cowardice dressed up as virtue.

One example to end today's anniversary rant.

Over a ten-year period, some 1500 girls were raped by Muslim gangs in Rotherham, England. The authorities and the press knew it was happening. The same thing has happened all across Europe and is happening right now. Discussing it with friends, we've all wondered where the men are. Why don't the men protect their daughters and do so with masculine vigor?

The role of men in a healthy, civilized society is dictated by biological realities and ordered by its underlying, objective model. We have discarded that model and those realities in favor of bizarre, feminist fantasies. Biology didn't change, so Muslim men, trained to see the infidel whores as their rightful prey, use their superior aggression and strength to do as they please with the girls. We wander around in a confused daze trying to figure out what is happening and how to deal with it. None of it makes sense any more because we've thrown out the necessary framework.

The Church was the keeper of that framework. It lost its nerve and collapsed.

Trust The Plan!

Weight loss is absolutely unforgiving. I've never really tried it before now and over the last 6 weeks, it's been a real struggle.

I turn 62 in August. The year before I turned 60, I set weightlifting goals for myself that I managed to meet. They were 60# dumbbell curls, 500# incline leg presses and 90# tricep extensions. I worked my core as well, not understanding how you get 6-pack abs. 

As the saying goes, 6-pack abs are made in the kitchen. You can build your core muscles as much as you want, but you'll never see them if they're covered by fat as mine were.

I wrecked my body hitting those age 60 goals, so the year of 60-61 was lost to injury recovery. I finally recovered and now I'm back at it, but this time, my goals include weight loss. I started 2024 at 221#. I've set a goal of 200# by 62. I'm not sure if that will reveal a 6-pack, but we'll see.

I've been scrupulous about my diet. Cottage cheese, yogurt, no sweets and so on. At the same time, I'm feasting on protein, trying to consume 240g a day. I'm still drinking a bit, so there remains some slack in my diet.

Anywho, earlier this week, I was right on schedule, bouncing around in the 217-218 range. Today? 220.

Trust the plan? For how long?

I haven't started counting calories yet, but if this keeps up, I'll have to do that. 

Argh.

On a positive note, with the exception of a few joints that are a trifle fussy, I've bounced back from my injuries and this year's weightlifting goals are higher than the old ones. I hadn't anticipated that.

Real Right Wing Media Disinformation

 ... is well-exemplified by this post from the normally excellent crew at PowerLine. It describes how Trump lost a unanimous decision by the D. C. District Court of Appeals which ruled that he did not have blanket immunity to steal catalytic converters or blackjack transients at the bus depot while he was President of the United States. That's all well and good. The closing paragraph was the kicker and it echoes what I hear from all my favorite hosts at the Daily Wire.

If the Supreme Court denies review, the underlying criminal case brought by Krazy-Eyez Killa Jack Smith will return to Judge Chutkan. Assuming no scheduling conflicts with the other cases pending against Trump prevent it, Judge Chutkan apparently means to get this case tried following Trump’s nomination at the Republican convention to be held next July in Milwaukee. A trial at that time would give new meaning to the term “election interference.”

Emphasis mine. We get that all the time from the conservative punditry these days. It's just grist for the poor, persecuted Donald Trump mill that is running 24/7. Yes, this is politically motivated. Yes, this is election interference. So what? Every candidate for the presidency from either party has faced that. 

If Nixon could have put McGovern in jail, you don't think he would have done that? The left sincerely believed Reagan was going to get us into a thermonuclear holocaust. You don't think they were turning over every rock in the garden, looking for a way to stop him?

The difference is that Trump, the malignant narcissist that he is, has been the only candidate stupid enough to give his enemies such a wide array of weapons with which to attack him.

Take January 6, for instance. Trump is a junkie. His drug of choice is attention and praise. January 6 was nothing more than him fumbling around in his desk drawer for his venipuncture tourniquet and syringe. There was no point to that rally other than feed his desperate, narcissistic addiction. Failing on the world stage by losing the election drove him to drug-withdrawal madness. That many in the crowd went to jail for his sake meant nothing to him. The January 6 riot had no other purpose than to feed Trump's addiction.

Yes, he's being politically persecuted. Yes, the DAs and judges going after him are hacks, except for the classified documents case. The pundits are spot on about that, but they miss one, huge detail about all of these cases, a detail they should have been shouting from the rooftops so their fellow conservatives could have made a better choice in the primaries.

That detail is this: Trump is a self-destructive idiot. He can't help himself. He's sick. He is the architect of his own catastrophic failures and it will always be thus. Is that what we wanted?

It didn't have to be like this.

That's in NYC, but I'm sure it's playing out in cities all over the country. The illegals are crammed into dormitories like sardines. I had wondered how bad it must be for them to be sleeping wall to wall with people they don't know, with nothing to do and no prospects for their future. I hadn't contemplated what it must be like for cops to come into the middle of a melee in one of them.

Chalk up another reason to leave the NYPD or similar police department.

Meanwhile, the hotel owners have 100%+ occupancy and the NGOs, particularly Catholic Charities, are making money hand over fist operating these prisons hostels.

Speaking of prisons, Alabama's are supposed to be awful, but I can't imagine they're nearly as bad as this.

OK, progressive Christians, I have a task for you. Without judging, using objective rules or referring to religion, explain why what this girl is doing is wrong. Alternately, explain why what she is doing is either right or is morally neutral.

I you're not a progressive Christian and you're just some laity schlub sitting in the pews hearing your deacon or priest tell you that God doesn't care about religion or rules and He hates judgmentalism, ponder what is happening to the families of the, what, 10,000? subscribers of this girl's OnlyFans channel. It's all good, right? Well, at least you're not supposed to judge.

The message is simple. Don't pay any attention to rules or judge behaviors in any way. Instead, love and love and love. Nothing you read in the Bible about sin matters compared to love.

Can you spot the glaring error?

The command to love comes from the text of the Bible. All I can think of is a dialog that goes something like this.

Me: Why should we love?
Progressive Deacon, Priest or Bishop: Because Jesus said so.
Me: What about the other things Jesus said?
Prog: Ignore them.
Me: Why?
Prog: (Pats me on the head gently) Just love. Let go of your rules and judgment. Just love.
Me: That's no answer at all!
Prog: (Laughs condescendingly) Just love and you will understand.

Elsewhere on this blog, I've suggested that Catholicism is a wholistic description of the world as it is. It includes science, mathematics, philosophy, ethics, cosmology, purpose and theology. It is the result of thousands of years of accumulated genius where brilliant thinkers like G. K. Chesterton built upon the works of St. Thomas Aquinas who built on St. Augustine who built upon Jesus plus the Greeks, Romans and Jews.

All of that is thrown away by modern Christianity in favor of bland, flaccid niceness. 

That niceness is built upon self-destruction. It derives its authority from the Bible whose authority it dismisses. It's like a mathematician who proves he doesn't exist and then, poof! he disappears.

We recently got a sermon from one of our deacons where he posited that God doesn't care about religion or rules, he only cares about love. He got that from Jesus' commandments to love. Jesus' assertion, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me," was disregarded for no reason whatsoever. So was Luke 22:36: 

He said to them, “But now one who has a money bag should take it, and likewise a sack, and one who does not have a sword should sell his cloak and buy one."

Since swords aren't nice, we discard that part of the Bible.

Catholicism threads the needle between love, charity and forgiveness and the harsh realities of the world. It is muscular and confident because it is simply the best explanation of the Universe going. Modern, Christian theology has lost its nerve and cowers in the face of cultural pressures, collapsing into the fetal position, whimpering about love and niceness.

More Illegals, Less Cops

I'm not sure if you've seen the viral video of a pair of NYC cops getting beaten by a mob of illegals, but if you haven't, here it is. The serious stuff starts at 0:19.

Think 6-12 months into the future. NYC already has 170,000 or so illegals and more are on the way every day. The NYPD is also operating at, what, 60% strength? Something like that. 

All of the illegals involved in the beating were released without bail. 4 of them have allegedly fled by bus to California. All of them were caught on camera belligerently and defiantly gesturing to photographers as they left detention.

Who is going to stick around as a cop in NYC? How many more illegals will arrive over the next 6-12 months? What is the activation energy required to get average Joe and Jane, middle-class shlubs in the NYC area, to pull up stakes and move to Tennessee?

Shockingly, while we were in San Francisco, wife kitteh, an NPR, Chicago Yankee suggested that if middle son kitteh and his family leave the state, we would move to Alabama.

She got a wake-up call at SAN when she saw all the illegals going through security on their way to fly to spots all over the country. I wasn't surprised, but she was shocked. The country is being invaded and plenty of Yankee cities are falling. That might be a bit of hyperbole now, but think where this will be in 6-12 months.

I think it's way past time to get the band back together. Sic semper tyrannis, baby.
