Well, to be fair, the Security Council was *supposed* to be the part of the UN that dealt with military crises exactly like this one. If the UN is involved at all, it pretty much has to be through the Security Council.
Granted, the inclusion of permanent security council members with veto powers pretty much defangs the UN when it comes to dealing with any of the permanent members. So, calling for the UN to do anything about this is pretty much pointless. But, there really aren't a lot of smart things for a mere candidate to say about something like this, so he had a choice between saying nothing, and saying something stupid. And as we all know, no politician can say *nothing*. . .
