Millions of Mexicans and other foreign nationals enter this country every year across our southern border. When you read the numbers, they don't tell the whole story. For one thing, the immigration is not evenly distributed across the entire border. For another, what do all those millions of people do with their trash and other waste?

Answer - if there's no money in it for the Sierra Club they are nowhere to be found. They have become a major fundraising body.
The local Sierra club chapters don't work that way. When I lived in Tucson in the late 1980's there was a strong anti-illegal sentiment in the local chapter that caused friction with the national organization. I think its more the case that the border wilderness areas have become so unsafe folks have just stopped visiting them. Organ Pipe national monument, located right on the border, has lost numerous rangers and had to close camping within the park due to safety concerns.
Kelly, you are So right about the dangers.
I go back with the Cubs at least twice a year to see my Folkes. My Sire, the Sar'Major goes Nowhere, including the Home Depot without packing a sidearm.
Neither do I. Espescially in the hinterlands.

Kelly, when you say they lost numerous rangers, do you mean they were killed?
KT-- I'd take a guess and say that some were found shot/beat to death, and some have not been found.

sadly yes. Since we were kids park rangers have been slowly transformed from naturalists into cops. Most non-law enforcement rangers you see any more are volunteers or interns. Its shocking how often you see the flag at parks at half mast. I always ask when I see it that way and the majority of time its to honor a dead ranger.
You know the rest of us out here have no idea. The news media would rather tell us about celebrities' trials and tribulations that about those life and death issues.
During the last election I heard the (sorry but - liberals) use the "vast numbers say the country is headed in the wrong direction" stat to bolster their candidates (they mean Bush is bad) - but no one ever mentioned if it was things like this that people mean when they say the country is headed in the wrong direction.
I kinda think that it is. People are dismayed at what too much tolerance and leniency and ignoring the laws is bringing us. We're seeing similar decay up here. (Northern CA).
