Kenosha Into Kabul

So Jacob Blake, a black man in Kenosha, got shot by the cops yesterday. This led to the now-standard rioting against the police.

Watching the video of Jacob being shot, the process was pretty simple. The cops asked him to stay where he was. Jacob didn't want to stay where he was, so, while the cops were shouting commands at him with guns drawn and pointed right at him, Jacob walked around to the driver's side door of his car, opened the door and reached in to get something. One cop followed him around the car and grabbed Jacob's shirt, trying to drag him away from the car. Jacob didn't want to be dragged away and so he kept reaching into the car.

Jacob was shot because he decided that the cops had no authority over his actions.

During the perfunctory rioting afterwards, the rioting mobs decided the cops didn't have any authority, either. The riots were there to make that point as clearly as possible.

Well. What do you think the cops in Kenosha will do? My guess would be that the cops will pull back, just like they have everywhere else. If the political authorities don't back them, many cops will retire or quit.

And then we'll have another Kabul in the US where the only safe spots will be the places where the powerful people live.

Bonus question: Joe Biden said he wanted to bring hope and peace and light to the country. I'd say there are some really good opportunities right in his own side's cities. Maybe he could show off his hopeful peace-lighting skills in Kenosha and calm that sitch down.

Come on, man! Show us your stuff!

  1. My brother and his wife live there. It's a really nice town. I've never felt the least bit nervous or threatened anywhere in that town. Unlike Minneapolis.

My sister-in-law says the area of the riots was, of course, the poorest area of town.

  2. Burning down the poorest part of town is the fastest way to achieve social justice.
