I'm sure this really is the cookbook approach to making a news segment. While it's fun to laugh at it, I can't imagine that you could expect them to come up with a new structure for every segment. They must be doing 5 segments per 60 minute show, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
It's really scary how much that looks like the news. Fabulous
