  1. I absolutely believe that a stable, two parent family helps a lot to raise good kids and give them a better chance of succeeding in life.

Mom and Dad stayed together to accomplish that with me and my brother. (They divorced when we went to college).

Unfortunately it is difficult to force people to marry or stay into marriage.

What it is possible is to make it less convenient for people to have kids outside of a stable family. Right now there are too many government incentives to have kids out of wedlock.

  2. Jose,

Difficult or not, it is the number one cause of social problems in America today.

It's even more difficult when our politicians and media don't talk about how important it is.

    Thanks for the comment!

  3. Hello k t,

I wonder if you've considered the number of women who, prior to the social acceptability of divorce, were locked into loveless and/or abusive marriages. I also wonder if you've thought about how many women, even to this day, were/are completely dependent on men who practice patriarchy and female domination.

Don't get me wrong, I recognize the importance of stable marriages and their impact on the children being raised in them. But I can't agree with you about divorce being the major cause of societal dysfunction. Like it or not, racism, sexism, classism, etc. all play a part in creating and perpetuating inequality.
