Birth Certificates Are Passé

Once upon a time, I had thought STEM would be immune to the madness of the woke crowd. I've long been disabused of that notion, but I will admit that this surprised me.

June 16, 2021 -- Sex should be removed as a legal designation on the public part of birth certificates, the American Medical Association (AMA) said Monday.

Requiring it can lead to discrimination and unnecessary burden on individuals whose current gender identity does not align with their designation at birth, namely when they register for school or sports, adopt, get married, or request personal records.

Why have a birth certificate at all? Doesn't recording the date of birth lead to discrimination and unnecessary burden on individuals who identify as being another age?

This person identifies as a 17-year-old black girl. If you disagree, you're a bigot.

  1. Hey, you just gave me a great idea. If I insist I’m 70, I should be allowed to claim a full social security payout starting immediately.

Ooh! Even better, I could self-identify as invisible, and argue that lockdowns and mask mandates can’t apply to me since ‘you can’t see me’.

The possibilities associated with socially acceptable insanity are just starting to become apparent.

  2. Will they eliminate race too?

  4. The logical thing to do would be to eliminate Title 9 and all gender designations in sports. So all High Schools need is one basketball team, one locker room, one volleyball team. Think of the money savings that could be better used for teaching Critical Race Theory.

  5. You know, a birth certificate is a funny document. Mine certifies that a child was born on thus-and-such date to these parents, witnessed by this third party, but beyond that there isn't anything on that document that connects it unambiguously to me. At this point, anyone who is male and of approximately the right age (which would include several million people) who got hold of it, could claim that it is their birth certificate. And by the time I found out about it I might have a hard time proving otherwise. And yet, it looks pretty straightforward to parlay a birth certificate into a full set of ID papers.

Where's the positive identification information? Fingerprints? Blood type? Retinal scan? DNA barcode? Anything?

  6. So, would this make a group of middle-aged, conservative white people a whining?

  7. OB: First off I’m not middle aged. I am officially old. Second, it is better spelled a ‘wine-ing’. Now get off my lawn.

  8. Ohioan@Heart,

As someone who has just under a year to be officially old, I hope you'll give me a moment to get up and walk.
