The crew of NOAA's Okeanos Explorer is posting videos of what they're finding on the ocean floor. This wasn't my original post for the day, but the videos are so cool, I had to share. That link will take you to the project home page. Here's a sample video. For best results, make it full screen and pull the scrub head back a bit. Enjoy!
Little-known fact: the Scripps Turd's official name is Okeanos.
ReplyDeleteThere is a small harbor in south-west Tasmania where "living on the ocean floor" is only about 25 feet down. I wasn't able to locate the documentary I watched a few weeks ago so I could supply a link. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteThe place is called "Bathurst Harbour" -- the surface water is brackish and stained red from tannin in the local run-off. The tannin blocks sunlight from reaching the floor, with the result that the local sea-life is made of creatures that normally live at much greater depths.
i love watching their broadcasts!
