Lizard Of The Day

I had a different post in mind, but this little fellow let me get close enough to take some decent photos with my phone, so here he is, reared up and posing for the camera. Enjoy!

My cat keeps going after the lizards around here. I tried to rescue one she had dangling from her mouth. She stopped, looked me, and flicked her head. There was a teeny tiny little snap, and I felt guilty for being too slow. Her calls of the mighty hunter should have had me clued in that something was about to be pounced upon.

Found one in our freezer. And another one got caught between the window screen and the window and all that was left was his little tiny skeleton. So, sad...

  2. Boy, you have all the best lizards!

We are planning a trip to Florida later this year, and as one of the attractions, I mentioned to the girls that Florida has lizards.

"Lizards!" they shouted gleefully, bounding around the room, "Lizards! Lizards! Lizards!"

I think they like lizards. Or maybe they just like saying it.

    Lizards!

  3. Tim, I love the curve of their bodies when they arch their backs to get a better view of the world. I don't know why, but that arc is beautiful to me.

Anon - cats will be cats. They are remorseless killing machines. We save as many victims as we can, but we can't save them all. Oh well.

    "calls of the mighty hunter"

I'd forgotten they do that sometimes. My cat used to tell me when he had something big like a wolf spider or Texas cockroach in reach. And they do that weird clicking sound when they're stalking sometimes... And I'd forgotten they do that. It's been too long since I had a cat. Planning on getting one next year, after we move.

Many years ago, I spent my junior year in Israel. One day, a friend and I heard this ungodly screaming cc-ing from inside the dorm. She and I ran inside, and there was this young Israeli women, an army veteran, standing on a chair, screaming in fear over a little lizard on the floor. And these two American girls see it, and said, "Ooooh! Here's so CUTE!" She thought we were crazy. My friend picked it up and took it outside.
