... well,
some women's shoes. I can understand flats and athletic shoes and I certainly understand heels, but recently, I've seen young ladies wearing things like these.

I get the heel, but why the platform? They make the girl look like she's about to fall over. |
My wife and I were out and about on a weekend evening recently and came across a bridal shower party walking through the Gaslamp District here in San Diego. They were all young and pretty and having fun. Most of them had on these platform shoes and all I could think was after a few rounds at the bars, they were going to be breaking ankles and falling into the gutters.
Like I said, I understand heels, but these shoes clearly made the girls uncomfortable and it's kind of hard to give a guy a flirtatious glance when you're struggling to remain upright.
"it's kind of hard to give a guy a flirtatious glance when you're struggling to remain upright. "
ReplyDeleteChastity shoes? Or I suppose if they can't stay upright it might be quite the opposite type of shoe. Hmm.
I figured that was going to be a double entendre.

It allows the girl to have more height than the heel alone would allow. I rarely wear heels except for special occasions. And I will wear these sort of shoes then. But only because my husband is a full foot taller than me. The photos look better, if I'm closer to his height. And my limit on alcohol is one drink, two if it's a long evening.
ReplyDeleteBut for girls who are (1) not attached to men who are NBA-tall and (2) who plan on drinking: Those shoes are ridiculous.
Well, that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteOnce, when I was in the shoe department of Target, I saw some particularly garish shoes like that. I said to my husband, "Oh, look! Target's moving into outfitting the, uh, 'working girl' demographic." This was right as some young teen was showing her mother the "perfect" shoes for prom--the ones I was showing my husband. Her mother--who had heard me--grabbed the shoe from her daughter and put it back on the shelf, "Let's look at another pair of shoes, honey..."
ReplyDeleteShowing off how ridiculously high of heels you can wear without actually needing feet that are crazy-long and walking on your toes?
ReplyDeleteWell, if you get the heels too long, then you end up with something like these, which look like fun.
ReplyDeleteVin Diesel was geeking out over hanging with one of the Final Fantasy producers (4 and 5, I think?) while wearing a pair of those.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, I don't think the stilt shoes have the same effect.
