I had asked for a cutting board, but didn't anticipate anything this huge. When I unwrapped it, I thought, "Err, yes, well, how nice. But it's simply too big to use!" Of course, I didn't say anything like that and wisely chose to show loving gratitude instead. I stored the thing in a gap between our refrigerator and a cabinet and didn't use it for a while.
Over the last few weeks, I've started bringing the monster out of its lair when I've needed to cut up big things like whole chickens and in doing so, I've fallen in love with it. It's so huge, you can cut up a chicken and then season the parts with flour all on the board, without having to even remove the scraps. Nothing gets on the counter top at all. It's like having a perfectly washable counter top that you can cut on. It may seem too big for your kitchen, but unless your place is really small, I'd highly recommend getting one.
More than a pound of chuck steak, half a pound of beef kidney and a big chef's knife, absolutely at sea on top of the colossal cutting board. |
Smart woman!
ReplyDeleteThat's cool! Will it fit in the dishwasher?
ReplyDeleteBarb, it barely fits in the sink, turned diagonally. The only way to wash it is if you have a detachable faucet. It's made for professional kitchens.
ReplyDeleteI have one too, but it doesn't get used as much as it could because it's hard to clean. If I don't clean it immediately after use, my wife banishes it to the laundry sink, where she throws all the things that aren't hers.
ReplyDeleteIt's for your own good, Tom.
ReplyDeleteWe have a cutting board that's nearly that large. And, like the others we seldom use it. But it's great when hubby needs to prep a rack of ribs or two. And I use it when I have lots of prep work in the way of chopping vegetables or breaking down a large piece of meat. I love having it as an option! But it's not an everyday piece because it is a bear to clean.
ReplyDeleteRight up by the fridge is the best place I've found.
ReplyDeleteI had one of those (a big polyethylene one that I got cheap when an upscale cooking supply store went out of business), but it turned out to be very awkward to wash because our sink didn't have a sprayer or detachable nozzle. Ultimately, I cut it in half on the table saw. Which actually works out pretty well, because now I have *two* good sized boards that fit in the dishwasher, so we can use one when the other is dirty. So now it gets used all the time, and cleaned regularly. And on the occasions when we *do* want a big one, I can just set the two halves together again!
