... finding a new lower limit to behavior becomes problematic.
Of all of the events of 2011, the London Riots had the biggest effect on me. This interview in particular was shocking as it ripped the veil off of the popular culture in England.
Related: Here are the lyrics from the #1 rap song as of right now.
The secular world has no answer to either of these. You cannot argue with either the two drunk British chicks or Jay-Z that what they are doing is wrong because it's working out just fine for them and who are you to tell them different? We've questioned and attacked moral authority until it has vanished from large parts of society. It's been replaced with nothing.
All the laws and police and social spending in the world can't save you from yourself.
Such was 2011, I had almost entirely forgotten about that moral black hole that was those riots.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me why you are my favorite moral scold.
Thanks, Dean. And, by the way, "Tsk tsk tsk."
ReplyDelete:-)
Au contraire mon frere, morality has been replaced. Western civilization replaced self reliance and righteous outrage with vicious, all powerful state police. The western human is now dependent upon the vicious guard dog to protect us from the wolves. As sheeple, occassionally our young rebel against the sharp teeth of our guard dogs as we watch in horror. Morality has been replaced with fear and dependence. Slaves do not need morality, they only need to know what brings punishment.
ReplyDeleteDDE, I just don't see the state police. I drove up alongside a young man in his car at a traffic light on Friday and he had his windows rolled down and his stereo blasting. The lyrics were things that would have disqualified you 20 years ago with any self-respecting girl. He didn't seem scared of state police at all, he looked like he was having a good time, looking for some bitches.
ReplyDeleteI would argue that the importance of politics is way overblown, or perhaps instead, politics is just a marker of societal behavior. Ask yourself just what it means to have a society where that Jay Z song linked in the post is #1 on the charts. What are the political positions that are going to make up for what it means?
