That would actually be pretty good for, say, recording bird and insect songs. Probably excessive, in fact.
I'm working on rigging up something similar (but much lighter) with a microphone and a surplus satellite TV minidish to see if I can get recordings of things like katydids (which normally clam up if you get too close to them).
