A doctor whose abortion clinic was described as a filthy, foul-smelling “house of horrors” that was overlooked by regulators for years was charged Wednesday with murder, accused of delivering seven babies alive and then using scissors to kill them ...They limited the charges to seven babies because Gosnell had destroyed his records. According to testimony, it wasn't seven, it was hundreds. Ms. Love reacted thusly:
He “induced labor, forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh, eighth month of pregnancy and then killed those babies by cutting into the back of the neck with scissors and severing their spinal cord,” District Attorney Seth Williams said.
The most disturbing thing I have read is the Philidelphia DAs statement:If you haven't heard about this story yet (it's hardly made a ripple in the national media), that's probably because they can't figure out how to pin this one on Sarah Palin or the Tea Party. Really, there's not much else to conclude. Hundreds of babies deliberately stabbed to death by a team of people operating in concert over many years and it gets less than 1/100th the attention of a paranoid schizophrenic going off the deep end and shooting people in Tucson.“I am aware that abortion is a hot-button topic,” said Williams. “But as District Attorney, my job is to carry out the law. A doctor who knowingly and systematically mistreats female patients, to the point that one of them dies in his so-called care, commits murder under the law. A doctor who cuts into the necks severing the spinal cords of living, breathing babies, who would survive with proper medical attention, is committing murder under the law.”He’s apologizing to his deep-blue/far-left constituency for having to prosecute the guy for killing hundreds of live babies! That he feels he needs to apologize for prosecuting this case speaks volumes about the left’s extreme and irrational attitudes towards abortion regulation.
This story is a treasure trove of societal indicators. I've downloaded and read some of the Grand Jury report in the case. It's worth a scan.
In any case, here was the greatest commentary I've seen yet on this story of Dr. Gosnell's crude, filthy, deranged butcher shop. Commenter flataffect had this to say:
Here I thought the benefit of legalized abortion was that women wouldn’t be forced into the butchery of back-alley abortions, but could go to clean, professional facilities. Now it turns out that the thing was really just about killing babies, after all.Bingo.
The new meme is that Lifers are at fault because of our opposition to abortion at will. If not for us, this wouldn't have happened.
ReplyDeleteSomehow.
It's all the fault of the side that had the only folks who were persistent about trying to help the victims.
Even the doctor whose minor female patients all came back with the same STD only hand-delivered one complaint and forgot about it; the protesters were there, helping women file complaint after complaint after complaint....
This is horrible but I am sure there are plenty others like him out there...
ReplyDeleteGarry, as I scanned the Grand Jury report, that's exactly what I came away thinking.
ReplyDeleteSo unbearably sad. Zero interest in the media. Zero.
ReplyDeleteCorrect me if I'm wrong but wasn't that one of the driving issues of Roe v. Wade? Didn't they claim having unrestricted access to abortion clinics was supposed to prevent just this very scenario?
ReplyDeleteI've never agreed with the idea of abortion as a means of birth control. I don't see the difference between what an abortion doctor does and what the average murderer does. Either way, a child loses their life.
". . . apologizing to his deep-blue/far-left constituency . . ."
ReplyDeleteJust how far-left are we talking about, here? I ask because even P.Z. Myers (Pharyngula) says that this guy is a murdering, incompetent quack who desperately needs to be locked up. I mean, just how much room *is* there to the left of Myers?
Tim, the DA apology was the thing that Shannon focused in on. I have another couple of takes having nothing to do with that. In any case, what you're saying holds true in lots of cases. You've got a political animal, in this case the DA, afraid of monsters under his bed that don't exist. Had the regulators been inspecting these facilities, I doubt anyone would have squawked. Everyone was just afraid of the squawking, so it was never done.
ReplyDeleteI think I need to use the word "case" more often. It would be great if I could work it into a sentence three times.
