A Text Scroll Box in a Blog Post?

I was just playing with something in Dreamweaver and wanted to see if it would work here. I know this is kindergarten stuff to some of you, but I'm still at that level with a lot of web things.

As you can see, once there's enough text in this box, the box will grow scroll bars... that's why we call it a scroll box! You could also place an image into the scroll box. And then we could add more and more and more. Let's add an image of Jacob.

Excellent! The code comes from quackit.

Update: How about a form?

Yes you can! Muuhahahaha!

  1. You should be able to insert almost any valid HTML (or JavaScript) in a post on Blogger. That's one of Blogger's strongest ... and weakest ... points.

WordPress.com is much more secure because it won't allow a lot of that.

The insecurity of Blogger isn't the platform (it, in and of itself, is secure), but the individual bloggers: Spammers use Blogger for their purposes, inserting HTML or JavaScript to do nefarious things.

Just use your new-found powers for good, and not for evil.

  2. I can type in the box, but then what happens?

What kind of nefarious things, basil?

  3. HTML and/or JavaScript can be used to redirect to sites or include code that can load malware on computers.

Since Blogger allows pretty much any HTML or JavaScript on blogs, this allows those blogs to be used as platforms for malware and attacks.

Now, Blogger in and of itself is safe and secure; that is, your blog won't be attacked. But, if you were an attacker, you could set up a site to attack users ... when they come to your blog.

Your blog, for instance, is safe. Unless you turned evil and loaded evil code on it.

  4. Rose, nothing happens to the text. Once you leave the page, the text vanishes. I could put in a button that emailed me the text when pressed if I wanted. I just wanted to play with some html tags I've not used.

Basil, I didn't know that about malicious embed code. Thanks!

  5. Common Sense Political Thought got hacked with a redirect not too long ago-- hacker got into the themes for the blog. Not a very effective hack, since there was time after the page was mostly visible before it automatically redirected you to the other sites, but it could be horrible in a couple of ways.....
