...will get treated in America. Are you surprised he didn't go to a country that has the government-run health care he's trying to force on all of us?
Our Monastery of Miscellaneous Musings has more. It's well worth a visit. Brother Dean did a great job with the analysis.
Pretty typical critique but it ignores two things.
ReplyDelete1. What about the German system thats being heralded in recent years? It uses a hybrid public/private system. How does it compare? I know that the Germans have disparaging things to say about the British system.
2. Coverage denials are not uncommon here in the US, even for those with coverage. And if you have no health insurance coverage, either due to a pre-existing condition or inability to pay, any system system of universal coverage is better.
Universal coverage increases demand without increasing supply. That will reduce access and reduce quality. It just does. It's a law of economics and no, the government can't repeal that.
ReplyDeleteFor those who already have coverage, Universal Coverage will make things worse. It can't help but do that. The Dems are focusing on the the minority who don't have coverage to the detriment of those that do. No one is travelling to Canada to get health care. They're all coming down here because the quality and access is better.
Addendum: I'm not familiar with the German system. In any case, life sometimes sucks. I'm sorry for the minority who can't get health care for one reason or another, but wrecking the system for the majority of us isn't the answer.
ReplyDeleteKelly, if by "pretty typical critique" you mean "uses factual data to support claim" instead of a handful of hard-luck cases by which policy should be dictated, then "thanks", I appreciate the compliment.
ReplyDeleteI could make the argument that between Medicaid, Medicare, the regulation of the health insurance industry (including regs that dictate what shall be covered and what cannot be screened for), etc., we have a hybrid system already.
ooops, almost forgot... downright rude of me...
ReplyDeleteKT, Thanks!
