Unrelated point--that picture reminded me of an incident with my (late) diabetic cat, Harriet. Harriet received insulin injections twice a day. One morning, I prepared her shot and while leaning over to pinch the skin at the back of her neck, I accidentally dropped the needle. It landed on the floor in much the same position as the pencil in your photo. When I went to pick it up, Harriet put her paw over it and pressed it to the floor. She then looked up at me with that "look".
That photo is priceless!
