My kids are wanting to get a hamster (or two so they have companionship). What do you recommend? My recollection of hamsters was that they bite and that they are escape artists... sorry, Jacob... are you like that?
If you're going to get a hamster as a pet, I recommend a Syrian like me. Some of the other types can be nippy, but we're calm and easily handled. We're also very pretty! I mean, I am beautiful, aren't I?
Hamster Heaven has a ton of information on hamsters. They also have a great message board for hamster enthuisasts to discuss us.
Feel free to send me an email or drop me another comment if Hamster Heaven doesn't give you all the info you need.
syrians are in my experience the worst hamster for biting, they always bite and draw blood when not used to hands or fresh from the pet shop, 'some of the smaller ones' do not bite at all unless you try to kill them when they are pregnant. Brush up on your knowlege.

ReplyDeleteI don't know about that. Jacob was a great hamster. He nibbled once or twice, but never had a temper or bit.
