Yesterday, I ran into a pair working a multi-level marketing effort for travel agents. They were nice enough people, but I have to admit I don't get it at all.
First, isn't multi-level marketing essentially a Ponzi scheme? I mean, what, exactly, are you selling in such a thing? Your management skills? If you had management skills, wouldn't you be, err, managing something?
The second thing I couldn't figure out was why Travel Agents? With the advent of on-line booking of flights and rooms and cars, who needs a travel agent? The whole industry is going away. Banding together in a vanishing industry sounds like a group of skydivers lashing themselves together and then sharing one parachute.
Did I miss something?
What you missed was an opportunity to learn about something new. There is one fundatmental difference between a pyramid scheme and a multi-level-marketing opportunity. With a pyramid scheme you pay money and get others to pay money and you make your money back based on how many people pay money after you....Period! With a pyramid scheme there is no other way to generate income.
ReplyDeleteWith a multi-level marketing company you have an opportunity to own your own business selling a viable product and provide the same opportunity to others that are looking for a way to financial independence.
Why travel when online bookings are available and easy to find? Because today people are working harder for someone else that they don't always have time to make their own travel plans. When they do they get the best price at that moment and they have to guess about the quality of those plans. Take a look at the reviews on trip advisor. Know why so many travelers are unhappy with the vacations they took? Because they didn't hire a professional to help them find accomodations to match their personalities and expectations. They looked at a description of a resort, produced by the biased resort, and made their decision.
Did they get the best price or the best value ? Theses two items are not the same thing.
Which would you rather do, take a vacation for the best price that leaves you dissastisfied or take a vacation that costs a little more and leaves you waiting to take another vacation and telling all your friends about your experience?
That is most times the difference between using a travel agent and using an online booking agent.
