Find Joy In Life

Having spent a lot of time noodling personal development, working through a wide variety of issues and trying all kinds of things, I've learned a thing or two about how to do this. Here are some tips.

Journaling

First, you need a journaling app for your phone or tablet. Without a journal that you update frequently, you sit around with your thoughts going in circles. Almost any change you want to make will happen faster if you journal. Some changes will never happen if you don't.

Without a journal, your life is like a bee's flight - a lot of random wandering around returning to the same place over and over.
You can't conduct experiments or learn from experience without a lab notebook and you can't solve complicated problems without writing and regular review. Here's the one I recommend:

Memories: the Diary

Books

Without books, you're little more than a farm animal. No, seriously, click on that link and read what's there. It's very politically incorrect and I found it quite funny.

99.99% of all problems have been encountered, solved and solutions recorded before. You're not the 1 in 10,000 with the unique difficulty. That's reserved for the dude who was born with no arms and no legs.

If you find you can't read traditional books or Kindle books, get an account on Audible. Get the Platinum membership with 2 credits a month. You'll use them. After that, download the Audible app.

Update: Something I picked up from reading Zig Ziglar's Better Than Good was that you ought to read inspiring autobiographies throughout your life. At least one a year, maybe?

I'm going to post a list of them, but for now I recommend Once a Marine. I haven't read it yet myself, but it looks really good. I'll post a real list including ones I've actually read after a bit.

Videos

There are lots of inspirational videos out there from people who have done great things and overcome serious obstacles. Immerse yourself in these stories. Watch and learn from them. There are underlying themes in their stories that you need to make part of yourself. Try this.
