20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

Growing up, this was one of my favorite movies. It inspired me to take up sailing, snorkeling and keeping aquariums. I just watched it last night with my daughter. It holds up wonderfully well. Despite being made in the 1950s, the special effects are quite good and the scenes with the submarine are excellent. James Mason as Captain Nemo is terrific.

It occurs to me that these Disney versions of Jules Verne would be considered steam punk by today's standards. what was old is new again....

I first saw that movie when I was eight. Afterwards, I spent a lot of time making little models of the Nautilus out of pieces of scrounged electrical wire. That was the COOLEST SUBMARINE EVER!

I could have done without Ned Land's singing, though.

Is there enough action for today? Sitting down to dinner, wouldn't keep attention of today's kids.

That said we watched "Secret Agent Super Dragon" last night. A MiSTie with Joel. HORRIBLE.
